Bridal
Accessories For Something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue
When you are planning for your bridal
accessories, you do not want to forget about something blue,
something old and something new. Although this is a tradition
that has been in existence for centuries, many brides today
forget about the tradition. Even if you have a themed wedding
or a casual wedding, you still want to have these three things
in your possession. For something old, many brides have
something that is handed down from family member to family
member such as family heirloom or something that has
sentimental value. Some brides will wear something from her
mother or grandmother. Something old might be the wedding
dress, handkerchief, necklace or other jewelry.
Bridal accessories may also include something new. For
example your wedding dress, your shoes, your headpiece or
anything else you may have brought. Usually these can be found
online at a wedding website. This is actually the easiest
bridal accessories since you need these things any way. For
something blue, you might choose a garter. If blue does not
match your wedding color scheme, the garter is always a great
way to have something blue. If you color scheme includes the
color blue, then you will already have your color.
Something borrowed for your wedding can be open to anything
as long as it fits in with your color scheme. You might borrow
a necklace, bracelet, earrings or even a wedding veil from a
family member. You might even borrow something such as a little
trinket that you can attach to your bridal bouquet without
taking away from the bouquet itself. Many brides also borrow a
ring or a wedding band from their mother to wear on the hand as
something borrowed. These old traditions are still strong when
weddings take place more so than any other wedding
tradition.
The meaning behind something old is that you are uniting in
marriage and leaving behind the old. You are making a new life
with the man you love and will share eternity. Something new is
that your union will start a new life and new adventures.
Something borrowed symbolizes someone or something that you
respect or admire. Something blue then represents nothing. It
was said that having something blue came because it rhymed with
something new. The saying and tradition stills stands even
though it has no symbolic meaning when you are getting married.
As you can see, except for something blue, everything
symbolizes something on your wedding day.
Other bridal accessories are also needed such as the
jewelry, makeup, wedding favors, cake knifes and invitations
and thank you cards. You always want to have everything you
need far ahead of time to make sure there are no last minute
surprises. You are going to have enough to worry about without
worrying about if you have everything you need. On your wedding
day you will have all your bridal accessories including
something new, old, borrowed and blue to take to the
preparation area.
